Sneaky Sound System, Vandalism, The Highlife New Year Eve Experience 2009/10

Held at the expansive Matakana Country Park, this year’s event showcased 8 stages of music and a collection of themed party and chill out areas for people to explore constructed especially for the event. Entertainment came in more ways they you could shake a bottle of Moet at arriving in the form of with Australian headlining act Sneaky Sound System, along with the wealth of other international artists including The Freemasons (UK), DJ Scratch - EPMD (New York City), DJ Cash Money (USA), Vandalism (Australia), Stonebridge (Sweden) and Mischa Daniels (Netherlands) just to name a few. Proudly representing New Zealand’s top shelf of live performers and DJs were none other than Nick Thayer, The Opensouls, Sola Rosa, Tahuna Breaks, Charlie Ash, Dane Rumble, Jolyon Petch, Peter Urlich and Bevan Keys just to name a few.

I was asked by Snapstar to film and edit the interviews and main sequences for a Snapstar video covering the prestigious Highlife event over New Year. I edited the interviews, intro and outro in less than a day and uploaded the clips to Auckland for final compile onto Vimeo.

Introduced this year to the mix was the new R24 area where mature festival goers could convene and for those who looked to enjoy a bit of pampering was the Powder room where ladies could get their hair and make up refreshed and rejuvenated. The expectations were high and exceeded for an event that continues to raise the bar on an already extremely success brand of entertainment.

Nothing short of the very best was delivered for what promised to be an event of international festival standard employing creative production that had never been seen before in New Zealand.

Spy Bar made a welcome return with its VIP nightclub set up alongside a brand new facet of popular Auckland nightspot “Flight Lounge” who was also on board for this year’s event. Flight Lounge creators hosted their own unique purpose built club space inside the festival while providing helicopter transport services from Auckland to the event.

Showroom 22 brought their ‘We Love Fashion’ party brand to this event that provided a luxurious lounge addition to the VIP area. This year the Highlife NYE Experience had a widespread range of all your favourite music genres including House, Funk, Soul, Electro, Breaks, Drum 'n Bass, Hip-Hop, R'nB, Dub, Latin, Jazz and more with a titan line up of international and local acts!
